It is with great sadness that we must report the death of Richard Hamersley, President of MBC since 1997. Richard worked tirelessly to keep MBC moving forwards and it is in no small part due to his efforts that the Club has enjoyed such success on the river in recent years. The insert below will appear in Friday’s Times and Daily Telegraph.
HAMERSLEY – Richard Hugh Meyler. Peacefully at home on 2nd May 2011, aged 66. Much loved by his family and wide circle of friends in Henley-on-Thames, in the RNVR, at The Haberdashers Company, Monmouth Schools, Magdalene College Cambridge, and CU Rowing circles. Funeral Service at 2:00pm 24th May, St Nicholas Church Remenham, by Henley-on-Thames, followed by private committal service at Reading Crematorium, Caversham. No flowers please but donations, if desired, to RSPCA or Magdalene Boat Club, c/o Tomalins, Funeral Directors, 38 Reading Road, Henley-on-Thames RG9 1AG 01491 573370.

The Stewards of Magdalene Boat Club warmly invite you and a guest to the Annual Reunion Dinner of the Friends of Magdalene Boat Club
Friday 11th June 2010 The Gallery of Cripps Court, Magdalene College Pre-dinner drinks at 7pm; dining at 7:30pm
And also to watch the last day of the May Races in the company of other vocal MBC supporters
Saturday 12th June 2010 Magdalene Marquee in Caius Meadow (access via Fen Ditton) Racing starts 11am; last division at 5:45pm Pimm’s and soft drinks available Buffet lunch and tea kindly provided by The Master and Mrs Robinson Punt crossing for members and their guests to the towpath side

I’ve just been informed that MBC have won the 2008/9 Michell Cup, ahead of First and Third!
From the CUCBC website:
“The Michell Cup, presented in 1923 in memory of Dr. R. W. Michell, be awarded by the CUCBC to the Boat Club giving the best performance on the river during the course of the academic year.”
A massive well done to all crews!
Thank you to all Friends who came to support MBC on the last day of racing. The turnout was fantastic, my Pimm’s mixing skills were stretched to their limit (sorry about the brief period in the afternoon when we ran dry – I collected extra supplies as quickly as I could!) and we were treated to some fabulous racing. Special mention must go to the 1st Men and 2nd Women who both won blades – congratulations!
The evening barbecue at the boathouse was also the lucky recipient of excellent weather, and it sounds like there’s quite some enthuisasm for a similar event in the future. The Bumps Supper is back in its regular Saturday slot next year, so unfortunately that rules out a direct repeat, but any suggestions for alternative dates or locations are more than welcome.
